A different kind of Smoky Mountain Christmas

IMG_3654‘Closed for Christmas’ meant Jenn and I work-traveled in the lowlands for a week. Our holiday? A little place called Semonkong, The Place of Smoke. We were drawn, of course, by the impressive Maletsunyane Falls – though a donkey pub crawl did sound rather novel.

IMG_3690Christmas morning we set out from the lodge and followed Pietr LodgeManager’s blasé instructions, “just follow the trail.” When ‘trail’ and ‘general mud run-off’ look the same, following either becomes rather difficult.

But after an hour and a half, two stops for directions, and a bit of backtracking…
