WASHINGTON – A divided Supreme Court effectively killed a key section of the landmark Voting Rights Act on Tuesday… “Our country has changed, and while any racial discrimination in voting is too much, Congress must ensure that the legislation it passes to remedy that problem speaks to current conditions,” Roberts wrote.
The court also went on to say: “Congress may draft another formula based on current conditions” that would salvage the voting law’s preclearance requirement.
Charming. Our Congress may now begin the very slow process of developing a new formula…how many elections will pass before that happens? If it happens?
I believe I understand the decision the court made today. Then again, maybe not.
